We offer a pleasurable one day Wine Tasting starting out at the very first Wine Estate in South Africa, namely Groot Constantia which was granted to Commander Simon van der Stel of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in 1685.
Here you can taste some of the best wines on the South African market which are fit for the Kings as history confirms that even Napoleon Bonaparte ordered his wines from this Estate. Other notable buyers include Frederick the Great of Prussia, King Louis Philippe of France, George Washington, The Duke of Northumberland, the Marquis of Hastings, the Governor of Ceylon and many more, thus you can also form part of this special historical circle.
You can enjoy snacks and breathe in the history of an unforgettable era at either the Jonkershuis Restaurants or Simons Restaurant.
Our trip takes us to Eagles Nest situated high up on the slopes of the Constantia mountain range. It was initially used as a refreshment station between Wynberg in the east, and the harbour of Hout Bay in the west when travellers had to cross the mountain pass, now known as Constantia Neck.
Here we will taste some exclusive wines such as Little Eagle and Verreaux as the Estate Eagles’ Nest has also committed to support the Western Cape Raptor Research Program of which you will learn more on this visit.
We continue towards the Buitenverwachten Wine Estate for our final wine tasting. This estate was originally part of the Constantia Estate and is nestled in the heart of the Constantia Valley and the name means "beyond expectations" and has breath taking views overlooking the Constantia Mountain Range. It was also founded by Simon van der Stel who was the first Governor of the Cape Colony.
Here we will enjoy some internationally acclaimed wines before returning home with satisfied pallets and unforgettable views branded in our memory forever.
